Learn the basics

Trade and economic data describe the size and shape of national economies and the flows of goods and services between them. The headline figure is usually Gross Domestic Product (GDP) β€” the total value of everything a country produces in a year β€” alongside how much it exports, how much it imports, and the balance between the two.

TradePulse pulls open indicators from the World Bank and partner sources, normalizes economies onto a common scale (log₁₀ of GDP in US dollars, so a $1 trillion economy and a $1 billion economy can sit on the same map), and shows the trade flows that connect them. The aim is to make the standard measures of an economy β€” output, trade, and the gaps between countries β€” readable at a glance.
